A Message From The Mayor
On behalf of the residents of Lynn Lake, Town Council as well as myself, I thank you for your interest in our community.
Lynn Lake has a very unique history. It is known as the "Town That Moved". When the ore bodies which were being mined in Sherridon were depleted and a Nickel deposit was discovered in the Lynn Lake area, Sherritt Gordon Mines literally moved the community over the period of a couple of winters. Lynn Lake became Manitoba's first nickel mining community. This truly northern pioneering spirit exists in the community today.
Although mining activities at this moment have ceased, there is still very good potential for the discovery of other world class mineral deposits in our area. Lynn Lake has a history of mining as demonstrated by five underground mines as well as five open pit operations. Lynn Lake welcomes all those interested in conducting exploration in our area.
For a number of years now the community has been working on ways to diversify our economy. Tourism is thriving and Lynn Lake has become known as Manitoba's "Sport Fishing Capital of Manitoba". NASA has been coming to Lynn Lake since 1990 to conduct high altitude balloon launches. It is said that during the summer months, Lynn Lake has more Ph.Ds per capita than any other community in Canada.
Lynn Lake is the service center for the northwest region of Manitoba. Our community has a fully accredited hospital, a modern K-12 school, a modern airport with a paved 5,000 ft. runway offering daily flights and an all weather highway with daily bus service. Other attributes include a float plane airbase during the summer, hotels & bed & breakfast, a CFDC office, an RCMP detachment, and two provincial parks. For Lynn Lakers, or for those who regularly visit our community, or for those who have yet to come, we can provide for all your needs.
Lynn Lake has many special activities to offer that you will not find elsewhere. We invite everyone to come and have a look for yourself.
Sincerely,
Audie DulewichMayor Audie Dulewich
